“Oprah, I have loved you since the moment I saw you,” is how I open my video letter to Oprah Winfrey, a woman who has been an inspiration to so many of us to improve our lives.
Yes, I am inspired by Oprah and in the video I tell her I think she’s amazing and that I want to meet her. But the other reason I’m reaching out to Oprah now — and to all of you who share my love for Oprah — is to offer a bit about my journey in writing Sweetness without Sugar as a way to give back and help people find better health through nutrition.
More and more people today want to cut out sugar and artificial sweeteners from their lives. But it can seem so hard!
Well, I discovered that if you want to cut out unhealthy foods from your diet, it doesn’t have to be all about deprivation.
The key is to work with your taste buds and not against them. Why are we reaching for the sugar? Can we get the tastes and textures that we love in a healthier way?
That’s the whole point of Sweetness without Sugar: to serve as a bridge from where we are now to where we want to be. With the right approach, we can get that mmm-yum-yum feeling that’s so good and sweet and satisfying from more nutritive foods. We can have sweet treats that balance the blood sugar and support good metabolism without that sugar high and the letdown afterwards.
So, back to Oprah. I’m inspired by her to try to help people make positive changes in their lives and find the sweetness within themselves. That’s why I’ve sent Oprah a copy of Sweetness without Sugar. Of course, I’d love her to invite me onto her show! But really, I just hope she’ll find ideas for sweet and healthy living that she might find helpful to her many fans.
